As a lover of Southern cuisine, my trip to Charleston wouldn’t have been complete without a visit to Husk. Known for its modern take on classic Southern dishes, I had heard countless rave reviews about the place, but nothing could have prepared me for the unforgettable dining experience that awaited me.
From the moment I walked through the doors of Husk, the rustic charm of the restaurant immediately drew me in. The historic building, with its exposed brick and elegant wooden accents, perfectly sets the stage for a memorable meal. The atmosphere felt warm and inviting, but there was also an undeniable air of sophistication about it.
I began my meal with the famous pimento cheese fritters, which were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside—a perfect blend of textures. The rich, smoky flavor was a delightful start, and I found myself savoring every bite. For the main course, I opted for the shrimp and grits—a quintessential Southern dish. Husk’s version was out of this world. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, and the grits were smooth and flavorful, enriched with a tangy tomato gravy that tied the dish together beautifully.

One of the highlights of my meal was the side of hoppin’ john, a dish I had never tried before but was encouraged to order by the knowledgeable staff. The combination of black-eyed peas, rice, and spices was the perfect balance of savory and satisfying.
What truly stood out to me, though, was the service. The staff at Husk made me feel like I was a regular, offering thoughtful recommendations and ensuring my experience was nothing short of exceptional. It was clear that every detail, from the food to the ambiance, was crafted with care.
In the end, Husk not only lived up to its reputation but exceeded my expectations. It was a true celebration of Southern comfort food, and I can’t wait to return on my next trip to Charleston.
