Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of traveling across the U.S., immersing myself in some of the best food festivals and dining spots this country has to offer. Each journey has been a delicious discovery, but one restaurant that stands out in my memory is The Slanted Door in San Francisco. Known for its modern Vietnamese cuisine and spectacular location overlooking the Bay, it was an experience I will never forget.
I first visited The Slanted Door during my trip to San Francisco, excited to try something different in a city so rich in culinary history. Located in the Ferry Building, the restaurant offers an incredible view of the water and the city’s skyline. Walking inside, I was immediately captivated by the sleek, contemporary atmosphere—open kitchen, minimalist decor, and an inviting energy that made me feel at ease.

For my meal, I opted for their signature shaking beef, a dish that perfectly blended flavors and textures. The tender beef was seared to perfection and paired with fresh herbs, creating an unforgettable combination. The balance of sweet, salty, and savory flavors in every bite was exactly what I was hoping for—comforting yet refined. Alongside the beef, I also had their spring rolls, which were fresh and vibrant, bursting with herbs and dipping sauce that complemented the dish beautifully.
The flavors were as bold as they were refined, and with each bite, I felt like I was experiencing the essence of Vietnamese cuisine through a Californian lens. The Slanted Door made me fall in love with the possibilities of modern dining. It was a perfect blend of tradition and innovation, and it’s a place I would return to in a heartbeat whenever I find myself in San Francisco again.
